Scaling & Root Planing

Scaling and root planing is an effective first line of defense against gum disease. It’s a two-step process that involves thoroughly removing all plaque and tartar from the surface of the teeth, down into the pockets of the gums, which can be a collection area for bacteria. Then, we’ll smooth out the roots, removing any hardened bacteria deposits. This will allow the gum tissue the opportunity to reattach to the teeth, providing protection against infection and worsening gum disease symptoms.

Antibiotic Therapy

In combination with scaling and root planing, we may also recommend Arestin antibiotic therapy. We utilize highly effective microspheres that we’ll use to target the pockets of your gums where bacteria are known to accumulate. Over the course of two weeks, the microspheres will continue to release the medication into the pockets, killing bacteria and helping to control the infection.

Oral DNA Testing

Bacteria can be tricky to nail down, and they’re incredibly adaptable, which is why it’s helpful to know what type is leading to infections. Oral DNA testing allows us to target the specific bacteria that are causing your gum disease symptoms for a much more effective treatment plan and to take control of the issue faster. This will make your overall experience more comfortable as well as cost-effective!
